Amaris

Education Director

Amaris Mokhortov (pronounced like sea torchwood, Amyris elemifera) holds a lifelong kinship with Florida’s living world. Since her early years, it was clear to her that landscapes were not just scenery, but communities shaped by plants, animals, and the meaning that people find in them. She leads TCWC’s Education Department with years of in-field experience that took place amongst slash pines, mangroves, and scrub through habitat restoration, prescribed fire operations, trail enhancement, invasive flora management, and research and recovery assistance to endemic and endangered species, with a focus on strengthening ecosystem resilience through practical land stewardship.

Here, within her applied knowledge, there is a deepened understanding that wildlife conservation, resiliency, and recovery are as much about people as they are about the land itself, as she creates opportunities for the community to bond with the natural world.
